Self-Care Awareness Week – in the UK

I just learned that November 9-15, 2009 was Self-Care Awareness Week in the United Kingdom. It’s purpose was to raise awareness of the information and support available to help people, especially those with a long-term condition, take control of their own health and wellbeing and encourage them to take a more active role in decisions about their care.

How cool is that?

Fran-I was at HCEA conference in Ashville – I was so impressed by what I saw and heard about the way in the US you share information and promote health care education, and I’ve followed the online discussions with interest ever since, so thought this a good time for me to join in. A big thanks to Linda Kocent for telling me about HCEA and suggesting I attend your conference that coincided with me being on a Florence Nightingale Travel Scholarship in the US (primarily visiting Family Learning Centres in Philadelphia and Chicago). I’m delighted u are, in turn, interested in UK developments in this area. My impression is that we all can do a lot for patient and family care through pooling our ideas/resources.I’d just returned to the UK end October when Self-Care Awareness Week came along and had wondered if I should send information about it via the HCEA discussion site but decided u probably already had similar projects in the US. I’m happy to share any more UK developments I think might be interesting to you ‘across the pond’ in return for all the fascinating discussion/information I’ve shared since joining HCEA

  2. I remember meeting you! Yes, please share your work in the UK with us here, both on this website and on the HCEA website (www.hcea-info.org). Together, we can move the world forward.
